Why poaching fines so low?

Hi All,

Read this morning of this big poaching bust yet only $23k in fines. Heck, that’s way cheaper than one would pay for landowner/auction/etc tags to access all those animals.

The article doesn’t have much detail but what am I missing here? Why not bigger fines?

Two prong approach- the fines need to be increased legislatively and there needs to be a push during the election cycles on the judges and county attorneys to assess more severe punishments.
