Who’s got a 6 arc?

They seem cool for someone who wants a factory ammo capable option with minimal recoil, max barrel life, and sufficient ballistics to get out to reasonable distances. I'd just be hard pressed to choose one over a 6 BR/Dasher if the intention is to shoot nearly all handloads. Wouldn't need a one off bolt face to work with a BR based cartridge either.

It seems like the guys wanting to push the heavy bullets in a 6 ARC often lean heavily on non-temp stable ball powder to get there. A modest load of varget/h4895 or similar in a BR based case to get the same performance sounds more desirable than having to push on it.
Optimized for the AR platform, correct? mtmuley

For someone that hand-loads and in a bolt gun, BR, Dasher, or GT are better options in my opinion. I have the latter two and they have been very easy to tune and produce very minimal recoil. Also had a HOWA mini in 6arc. Didn’t care for the mini platform at all.

Is there a reason why you would like the arc over a dasher?

One of my hunting partners looked very hard at building a 6 Arc. In the end he ended up going the 6 dasher route.

Why would I want a dasher? Is there good brass available?

I appreciate all the other options but nobody yet is telling me what’s the downside of 6 arc.

There’s a zero chance for me to buy a howa.

I got a mini 6ARC for my grandson. After shooting it out to 600yds, it’s no longer my grandson’s. Suppressed it’s almost too fun.

There’s better choices for a true long range 6mm, but inside 600yds it holds its own.

It’s there in the middle:

I’m thinking of shooting heavy bullets if I were to have one put together - Maybe a defiance action in a nice chassis.

Just an all around fun gun for busting rocks and for deer and antelope also.

Sounds like a good reason for a 22 arc. 88 grain eldm or tmk 2800-2900fps. Flatter trajectory and same or less wind drift as 6arc.

I have two: a Tikka with Preferred barrel and Zermatt TL3 with Proof. It’s a fun round.

Why so? I’m looking for maximum efficiency, light weight, high performance and zero recoil. Aside from a higher velocity potential- what’s better about the 6 creed? I reload also.

It’ll be efficient and have low, though not zero recoil. As Wind Gypsy mentioned you won’t get high velocity in a short barrel without going to the ball powders. With the bullets you mentioned you would get pretty decent performance even at lower velocity.

Dasher is a good round with excellent brass, so is a GT. Each has a bit more capacity for a bit more velocity, all else being equal. They also use a much more common bolt face.

22 Arc is good too, just a different compromise. I am favoring the selection of 6mm bullets (vs 22) at this moment in time.

Because it’s a standard bolt face, can push heavies at a reasonable speed without standing on it but you’re still talking burning like 30-32 grains of powder only. Alpha brass is current standard, used to be fireformed Lapua 6BR brass. Lapua announced 6 Dasher brass coming like 2 years ago, not sure if it's even hit the shelves yet? Been the darling of PRS for a while and won a whole bunch of LR benchrest as well. Can basically expect to buy one powder and known bullet and know it will shoot.

Oddball bolt face that only works for ARCs, Grendel, or PPC. Low velocity if you want to shoot heavies without a long barrel.
