A couple guys at work swear it kills any ticks on contact without the smell of deet. Deet and Permethrin both are somewhat toxic but you have to use something I guess.
I have been doing a little research on the stuff, bought some and will give it a try after my second bout of Lyme's last year I need to do something.
I have always been a bargain hunter for stuff and know a lot of cost is nothing more than creative labeling such as the Cabala's Digital Reloading calipers for $50 that is the exact same one at Harbor freight for $14 without the Cabalas Logo. Another one is "deer mineral" which is nothing more than livestock mineral in a smaller bag, the same mineral composition% on the label, and a picture of a deer on the bag for twice the price. Women often buy horse conditioner and use it for their hair at a fraction of the price.
Well Today I went to the store and was going to buy a second bottle of Sawyers brand clothing spray with .5% permethrin (3-Phenoxybenzyl(1RS)-cis,trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate) and wondered if the pet area had something with the exact same active ingredient.
What I found was this product http://www.tuttles.com/brutehorses.html
but the concentration was 10% compared to the .5% of the human product. Called a buddy who is a chemist and he confirmed what my thoughts were. The inert ingredients are not specified so he said it is pretty much just going to be anything like water, maybe add a few drops of dish soap, Dilute the stuff 20-1 and you have the same thing. Spray it on your clothes, let it dry, wear it up to 4 weeks.
And, if you mix up your own, it would cost about 50 cents a bottle
compared to $9
I think I will give it a try next week. If you guys don't here from me I either got eaten alive by ticks or died from a reaction
