A couple guys at work swear it kills any ticks on contact without the smell of deet. Deet and Permethrin both are somewhat toxic but you have to use something I guess.
I have been doing a little research on the stuff, bought some and will give it a try after my second bout of Lyme's last year I need to do something.
I have always been a bargain hunter for stuff and know a lot of cost is nothing more than creative labeling such as the Cabala's Digital Reloading calipers for $50 that is the exact same one at Harbor freight for $14 without the Cabalas Logo. Another one is "deer mineral" which is nothing more than livestock mineral in a smaller bag, the same mineral composition% on the label, and a picture of a deer on the bag for twice the price. Women often buy horse conditioner and use it for their hair at a fraction of the price.
Well Today I went to the store and was going to buy a second bottle of Sawyers brand clothing spray with .5% permethrin (3-Phenoxybenzyl(1RS)-cis,trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate) and wondered if the pet area had something with the exact same active ingredient.
What I found was this product http://www.tuttles.com/brutehorses.html
but the concentration was 10% compared to the .5% of the human product. Called a buddy who is a chemist and he confirmed what my thoughts were. The inert ingredients are not specified so he said it is pretty much just going to be anything like water, maybe add a few drops of dish soap, Dilute the stuff 20-1 and you have the same thing. Spray it on your clothes, let it dry, wear it up to 4 weeks.
And, if you mix up your own, it would cost about 50 cents a bottle:eek: compared to $9
I think I will give it a try next week. If you guys don't here from me I either got eaten alive by ticks or died from a reaction:D

DEET is a repellent and Permethrin is an insecticide. DEET does not work on clothes since it reacts with your body to create the repellancy to keep bugs from biting. Permethrin is a synthetic copy of the natural poison contained in marigolds and kills bugs, rather than repel them. You generally don't want to put permethrin on your skin but use it on your clothes. I use the Sawyer stuff on my socks, pants and shirts in tick country.

I have been using Permanone for years! It kills ticks! Spray on clothes outside and let dry. Wash yourself well! Last for days, maybe weeks!
You can get at Wally World----Repel Brand, I think.

For your sake schmalts, I sure hope it works... :)

Do you guys know if this stuff would be ok to put at full strength on you clothes as long as you don't get any on yourself?

Schmalts, isn't permathin what you accidentally sprayed on your dick? At least that's what I thought you told me that one time I laughed at you when you were pissing in the forest.

Kurt, Yea it was. The biggest side effect from direct skin contact is extreme swelling. I was pretty huge that day

Well that would be 20 times stronger than the store bought stuff... so If it seems to work in .5% concentration why kill yourself with it??
My guess is the only reason they have the stuff mixed in 10% for horses is to repel the biting horn flies. Flies have a tendancy to bite right through a lot of bug sprays, My concern it Ticks, so I will stick to the .5%

sick bastards.

Hey it worked. Me and my son, zero ticks. Went out bird hunting with a bud Sunday for an hour and he had 8 crawling on him, we had none.
