What's your elk rifle and cartridge?

Custom Weatherby Mark V, 340 Weatherby Mag, 250 gr Nosler Partitions, 3050 fps. Two bulls DRT. Same with a BC Moose and two bears (black). GJ

Care to share what your load is? I am having a hard time getting 160 Accubonds to shoot well out of my Savage.

I’d be lying if I claimed anything more than dumb luck in finding that load, but I’m happy to share with you. I’ll PM you later when I get a chance to look at my load book.

Forgot one a cow elk, bull moose, deer, and antelope with a 358 win out of a Mag Research loan eagle single shot hand gun. no longer have it.

Tikka T3 laminated 30-06 with a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42
Probably can’t call it my elk rifle, yet, as I haven’t hunted them to this point, but it hammers deer. Maybe this year.
It likes Federal Trophy Bonded in 165gr, but I’m thinking of trying out some non-lead options this year.

Up to last season a Weatherby Mark V 30/06 with a Lilja 1/11 with 180 gr Accubonds

This year its a Nosler M48 in 30/06 with 180 gr Accubonds

I've only shot cow elk, but I've used a Savage111 in 7mm Rem mag with 140 gr partitions on one, and a Rem700 .30-06 with 165 gr Accubonds on one. The Savage has a Nikon scope and the Rem 700 has a Leupold Rifleman, I think.

Using a Kimber Hunter 280 Ackley Improved with a Vortex Viper 4-16x44...shooting handloaded 145 Barnes LRX.

Took a bull elk, whitetail, a CA boar and AZ javelina this year..shots ranged from 300,40, 320 and 4 yards respectively.

I have not taken an elk yet but I have 2 rifles that would work, I have 2 Ruger M77 MKII's one in a 7mm08 and the other in a .280 Rem both shooting 150gr pills. I would not hesitate to use either20180609_211405.jpg

300 RUM with laminated stock, It has to have handloaded 180 grain accubonds. Topped with a VX 2, 3-9x40. Plenty of power but also a very heavy gun.
