I've been thinking about those NICE frames and the goodies to go on it. I'm not sure I could swing it this fall for the one/two trips. The taxidermy bills this summer have kind of depleted the ol hunting fund... 
I will try and make time when I'm in Boze this fall to stop in thier shop and check them out. Are they still in the same place as when they where Dana? Might have to put one the ol Christmas list. I'm in need of upgrading my pack, tent, and sleeping bag. I think my tent is pushing 16-17years now, and my bag is close to 10. They still work fine though... kind of hard justifying the upgrade to save an oz or two. My backpack is kind of a POS, but luckily hasn't crippled me, nor can I complain about the fit... but will be the first thing to get upgraded. Maybe next year depending on what I plan. Not sure if Africa is in the works or not... Might need a new pack for the trip to Chile anyway, so that might be a good excuse to get one.
The most I packed in one trip was on a sheep hunt about 6-7 years ago, I never weighed the pack, but know that an elk quater would have been lighter...
What extra 'bags' would you recomend for the NICE pack? The big bag and the crew cab? What kind of material are they made out of? Would you hunt with it as your day pack or could/would it be noisy? I just bought a new day pack about a month ago, a Badlands 2200, its not going on this trip, my old Bianchi 1700 is going along. It works well for tripod/spotter and every day junk, but only wieghs about 2 pounds empty. Where as the Badlands is about 6-7... and almost twice as big, but on the other hand they are completey difrent packs, one if for crap the other can be used for hauling meat...
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Went to the "toy" store on Friday and picked up a new Pocket Rocket stove, so that cut about 2 pounds off. Also picked up some food, and a few misc hunting items. I weighed my tent and its only 4.1 pounds and not 6... there was also a few other things on there that overestimated the weight on. I havent put it all together, but I think that it will be closer to 60-62 pounds. Something to think about Greeny... you could have packed in 2 cases instead of just the one if you'd have left half that crap at home.
The goretex pants will stay. I've been caught out in some crazy azz weather and they along with the coat saved my azz more than once. They don't weigh much and I can use them as a second pair of pants if need be. I've yet to find a set of rain gear that I like that isn't noisy, and is durable. I plan on hiking in with shorts and then swapping out for pants. Might sound stupid packing them instead of wearing them, but the pants won't be all sweated up when I get to camp. Plus I'll have something to lounge around in while I'm fishing/shooting grouse in the mid day... The only thing cotton that will go along will be the pants, that might get swapped out for wool... we'll see. I'm not to worried about it, been hunting in cotton pants for 20 years, haven't died yet. Been soaked head to toe more than once in cold weather... Luckily the 1" layer of blubber keeps me warm. With polypro long unders its a moot point IMO. There really are not any synthetic hunting pants out there that I'd want to wear in public anyway... They either look like pajama bottoms, or look just durable enough to make it to a treestand... If it goes with me into the mountain it better withstand my fat azz falling on sharp rocks and sticks.
I need the extra unders... where I'll be there is a pretty good chance of seeing a deer or two that will make me crap my pants. So I figure if I see more than 3 big deer I'll have to go camando for the rest of the trip.
I think Base camp will be at about 11,500 feet give or take. I think about the only thing I have to worry about is rain/lightning, but it could snow (actully just got a report that there was snow up there as of yesterday)... not realy worried about it though, I doubt it will get too cold either, if it gets to bad... I'll hike out. I think its only going to be about 5-6 miles at the most.
