I have onlt hunted elk one time in CO. Its been 20 + years. And i would not call what i dis elk hunting more like just walking with a gun in the woods.
All that said. My self and a friend are wanting to do our frist elk hunt. Just looking for any elk. What state do yall think.
I was thinking MT general tag or CO otc. If there is a better idea please let me knoq

If budget allows you could do the deer/elk combo in MT. Even if you whiff on one species you may get lucky on the other.

Otherwise, you can look at OTC options in CO or ID.

Hard to beat colorado if your just looking at hunting elk and opportunity

Colorado has the most elk and really the most opportunity, so that is probably your best bet. Pick a unit you can pull OTC and plan to be out there at least a week. If you look at the strategy articles/videos from Randy and hit it hard for 7+ days, you will get into them.
