What scope to get for my CVA Accura V2 muzzleloader?

Hello fellow hunters,

I hoping someone can lean me towards a good scope that will work with my CVA muzzleloader for about $350. I don't know if I should buy a designated "muzzleloader scope" or a non muzzleloader (like leupold VX-2) scope in that price category. Honestly I don't know what the difference is between the two. Are they built different? I have my eye on Leupold Ultimate Slap Muzzleloader scope, would that be a good choice? Lastly any tips and pointers for picking out a scope, what to look for or avoid? Maybe share experiences with scopes on your muzzleloader and what you use would be nice.

I've used Leupold over the years but have started using Vortex as of late. Where I live, Colorado, is open sights only during muzzleloader. However I rigged my CVA Optima with a "peeprib" system that is similar to a picatinny or weaver mount rail with an integrated peep sight. Should I want to use the CVA during rifle season then my plan is to buy a Vortex Crossfire II scope and fit it with Warne quick detach scope rings or something similar. That whole setup is between $250-$300. The idea is that I can remove the scope for muzzleloader and reattach for rifle. I'm always big into sighting in before the season, so I do expect to check the accuracy of the quick detach mounts before I get into the field.

I have a vx2 on my accura and confirmed from Leupold that the ML scopes are just called that because they set the parallax closer than a typical scope. It has nothing to do with ruggedness.

My only change would be to get a BDC type of reticle for different distances. That was not worth the cost of upgrading the vx2, though.

What state are you hoping to hunt with it in? I know in CO scope are illegal, and in Utah I believe it has to be a 1x only, not sure if this was changed.

You can use a variable power scope in Utah now.

I'd toss a Minox 3-9 on there for $90 and be done with it. Very happy with the one I put on mine.
