What do beets taste like to you?

Had beets at dinner last night. GF couldn't believe how deliciously sweet they were, I'm thinking she's insane because they, like all beets I've ever tasted, resembled a juicy mud pie. Googled it, and there is in fact a chemical in beets that makes some people taste dirt when eating them. How many of you taste sugar, how many taste dirt?

But yellow Golden Beets are very sweet and good. To me.

Another vote for dirt but definitely seems to depend on how they are cooked. Much prefer them pickled though.

You couldn't force one down my throat when I was growing up.

At some point, pickled beets started to taste good.

Cooked beets taste very earthy to me, but I like them, just not too often.

Yeah, they kinda taste like dirt to me, but I still eat them from time to time. Guess that says more about me than beets though.

Pickled beets are sweet.
Grilled beets are fantastic.
Beets are inexpensive, store for a long time and great on any plate.

Sweet, one of my favorite vegetables. I plant two rows in my garden every year.

I eat them occasionally for variety.
Interesting aftereffects.
But I'm colorblind so don't jump to conclusions.
