Havent been back in Idaho for a few yrs due to covid and NR tag cap really jacked to get back win loose or draw its going to be an adventure
If I can will post when I'm out their but if not when back and have service
Good luck to others heading out also and be safe

Woke up to 54 degrees this morning hitting trail to get a hike in at 5400 ft before going in tomorrow
Love being back in Idaho
I have to say it's probably my favorite western state due to great friendships made over 25 yrs and the great hunts I've had even ones that I didn't fill my tag

That’s some gorgeous country to go around in…

Well guys n gals I've hiked ,biked all summer
Got ready best as I could got to Idaho a day early to hike at 5400 feet today before going up to 9000
And tomorrow is the day feel like a kid at Christmas
Don't think I'll have any service but will up date when I'm off the mtn
If I do find spot where I get service maybe I'll be able to check in
Good luck to every one else chasing bugles this week

The 3rd day had a big boy coming in South of 300 great fronts n 4th but not big on back but real nice came to 70 yrds and I felt the wind change and on the back of my neck and he exploded out of the area
Went up high to glass watched a few elk , figured to let em go to bed and wait them out till later. A few cows came out into a meadow later in the afternoon while watching them saw an elk in the timber making it's way down it was a big heavy 5x5 and watched it dog a cow in the media and lay down to roll in a wallow so made a play to drop down wait to thermals changed and make my way up to go right at him
Set up and called for about 15 minutes didn't hear a thing moved up about 100 yrds and same thing not a sound getting ready to move and blew a desperation bugle and the bull exploded about 200 yrds away moved 50 yrds and called again he was a lot closer and moving fast
Got set he came in so fast came into 20 yrds and got behind me where their was a 6ft high wall of dead falls n pines so thick I couldn't even see his antlers just had a opening with his shoulder in it I wasn't going to take that shot so let the bow down hoping to get another well he winded us and blew out heading for Montana
Worked the big 6x6 next day but couldn't get him closer than 150 or so he just pushed his cows away
I didn't get much of a chance after that it was good to be back into Idaho again but the bulls were on the quiet side this week. So the quest of putting a better bull on the wall than I have now continues till next yr
Man I really hate tag soup so back to Pa for whitetails and black bear
