Hey Ronnie how you doin? Got a few questions for you. That 25-06 that we tuched on. Have you shot coyote with one? If so what grain bullet? I have my heavy barrel 700 BDL 222 that I will shoot for 200 or less. So I am courious about pelt damage with the 25-06 over 200 yards?

That 700 Varmitmaster 22-250 from 69, is that the original barrel? How many round do you think you have through it?

Ronnie the reason that I am asking about the 25-06 pelt damage is that my ole lady bought me a 260. The 25-06 is about the closest thing I can come to. They both have 120's, the reason I picked 120's is that is the smallest gr I can find for the 260. So I am just trying to get a general idea about the pelt damage.

I had pretty much decided on a 25-06 because of the wide variety of grain weight available. So far for the 260 I have only found 120 and 140 grain.

I am getting the feeling that it will to much grain wieght for saveing pelts. I was hopeing to just use it between 200-400 yards. And use the 222 for less than 200 yards.

Well I am scratching my head on this one. I have never used a .260. I believe loaded with a 140 gr Hornady A-Max are Nosler Partition. They should not be to bad on fur at long ranges. The A-Max being a target bullet. The Partition being for deep penetration.

I believe you would have to go the same route with the 25-06, And slow it down a good bit. I have use the Winchester factory 120 gr PEP with mixed results. At ranges past 200 I have nearly cut them in half. Then the next one not have much damage at all.

Sorry I don't have a better answer, But since the fur here is worth 0. I don't have much experience saving it.

The 22-250 is the factory barrel. Over 4000 rounds. Cut back 2" at 2500 and recrowned. Still doing 1/2 at 200 yards.

The 260 Remington, loaded with 100 grain Nosler partitions is an excellent round for pelts. The construction of the bullet is such, if it does come apart, only the front end separates and it does so internally. The exit hole is only the rear portion behind the partition. Usualy makes a very small exit hole.. You might try loading 100 grain partitions with 48.3 grains of IMR 4831 and a CCI LRBR primer. As with all loads, reduce it about 10% and work up in 1/2 grain increments.

Thanks for the info Dan.

In the rifle I only want to shoot the coated Barnes XLC's they only offer 120 and 140.

It appears that I might have to consider other options.

Any help or suggestion or I tried that design and never again...with the following would be great.

Hornady 95gr V-max
Nolser 100gr Balistic tip
Speer 90gr TNT hp
Sierra 85gr Varminter HP
Seirra 120gr Matchking HPBT moly

I just got off of Medway's web site it had 64 diff options for .264.

So I have a few more options:

Sierra 107 HPBT
Lapau 108 HPBT
Lapua 108 HPBT silver jacket 'scenar'

Thanks for any help that you can offer.
