I am wondering how many of you use this? I am thinking about getting one for my fish and don't know how much I would use it for other things like elk and deer?

John

Foodsaver is a consumer grade Vac sealer that I use fairly often. I buy ingredients for trail mix and pkg them in single servings, same with Gatorade powder,

I'm glad I have it. I've marinated steaks in the canister before with good results...

I use mine for all of my wild game, fish, trail mix, etc.

We ended up getting a commercial grade one. The food saver is great for small jobs but if you are going to be doing a large amount, it will overheat frequently. That and we were going through one about every other year.

I also use mine for all of my wild game. Works great!

Huge fan of a vacuum sealer. I used Food Savers top of the line model for years and recently upgraded to a Weston which is a far better unit. I believe it is rebadged for Cabelas too. Not cheap, but well worth it if you process a lot of meat.

I use my food saver sealer for anything from wild game to buying meat in bulk at the butcher and sealing it in portions. Best 250 I've spent

Use mine all the time. Marinating in the canisters is great, and I seal up things I do not want getting corroded like bulk ammo. I sold a couple guns and shipped them all sealed up in a bag made from the bulk roll

I use a Food Saver unit for meat, fish and other foods, but you need to keep the rubber seals and catch tray dry (wipe out with paper towels) when sealing items that contain some fluid (such as fish). I won't go back to wrapping paper again!

My brother-in-law has a commercial grade unit, but I just couldn't stomach spending over $2K on one of those... The non-commercial grade works fine for me; if/when he's in my hunt party, then we use his and that works out great!!!

use for all sorts of stuff. And never using freezer paper again on an animal, I hope.

I like one pot meals when hunting and there s NO better way to premake and freeze stew, chilis, etc for hunting camp. no leaking mess in cooler.

Thanks. So what would you recommend? I have been looking at a few, Cabelas has there pro one on sale for $250 (Reg. $360) but it is only an 11" one. Not sure what I need?

Thanks again,
John

I lucked out. My mom had a Food Saver, and now that my Dad is gone, she doesn't buy in quantities any longer, so she let me have hers. It's great for packaging my Venison, and the occasional whole pork loins that I buy from Sam's Club and cut up into chops. I've found that BassPro has the best price on the replacement bags and they also offer a wider assortment of sizes than any of the other retail outlets in my area.

I suggest you buy one, as you can see from all the comments above they are very handy and get used a lot. I would waste keystrokes reiterating what has been posted above so I will stop here.

I think mine is a +-$150 dollar model foodsaver, probably had it for 4 or 5 years, will likely replace it in a year or so as it's kind of wearing out, definitely got my moneys worth out of it. I usually cut meat enough to fill 5 bags, seal those and give it a rest while I cut more.
