This is a late post but my brother ( Outdoor Junkie) and myself shot these Wisconsin public land bucks 5 minutes apart on the Wisconsin opener on November 22nd. We are both meat hunters but are happy when the good lord blesses us with some great bucks. We spend countless hours scouting public land from Google earth focusing on funnel points that are hard to get to and then getting out there and scouting and prepping.

We left my brothers house about 3 am on the opener and were off to our stands by 4:15 am. As we drove out we were really excited and even said " one of us is going to shoot a good buck today" little did we know that we would both shoot respectable bucks before 9 am... 5 minutes apart to add to that. I had just over a mile walk in from one side of the public land and my brother has about a 3/4 mile walk in. We had about 14" of snow on the ground and the temp was in the upper 20s which made for awesome conditions. We both pack several layers of clothes in our framed pack and hike out in jeans and a t shirt to prevent from getting sweated up and get dressed at the base of our tree so we can sit the entire day.

By 5:40 am we were both in our climbing stands, just over an hour before the season opens.
We like to get in early so when other public land hunters come in just before season starts they push the deer past us. As the crow flies we only hunt about 600 yards apart on the opposite sides of a large clear cut but it makes sense for us to come in from opposite directions.

My brother had a 6 or 8 out about 300 yards near my old stand but couldn't get a shot along with a couple does. Early in the morning. I had what I now believe was 2 does and a small spike about 60 yards away through a thick area of brush as well. I could have shot a doe since we each had a buck and doe tag about 7:30 am but I wanted to save that tag for hunting near home with my daughter so I passed.

At about 8:35 I heard shot ring out and immediately texted my brother to see if it was him, his response at 8:38 was "8 pointer dead in the clear cut". We texted back and forth and I gave him some congratulations because when one of us shoots one it is like both of us do because we put the work in together.. We wee both on a high.

As I went to put my phone down I look up and 2 does are running toward me from the clear cut, I pulled my phone back out to video tape them and I looked past them and a decent buck appeared from the brush in hot pursuit of the does. I quickly shoved my phone in my pocket and swung my scope into my only shooting lane to my south and as soon as I got it in place I saw the front shoulder pass as I squeezed off the trigger... Right through the boiler maker, 30 yards later he skidded to a stop.

My brother hadn't even started to climb down from his stand when I texted him at 8:43, 8 pointer down. We were both extremely excited and awestruck... This is the stuff people like us read about... It doesn't actually happen to guys like us.

Now neither are monsters but both are respectable 2 1/2 year old deer. Outdoor Junkie (Chuck's) buck is a 16" - 9 point and mine is a 15" - 10 point.

I will attach pics on the next post.

They are Cushman, thanks! This is my best year to date, a cow elk on January 2nd in Wyoming, a small black bear in Wisconsin on September 4th, a huge antelope in Wyoming on October 2nd, and this respectable Wisconsin whitetail on November 22nd. My brother had the same results except for the black bear but he shot a spike on public in the Minnesota gun season to make up for it.

With all of this said, I don't think there will be many moments that beat the day we tag teamed these 2 bucks.

Nice bucks! sounds like an ideal morning for you guys.

always a good opening weekend when the meatpole is heavy and the pack wins ;)

Here is another picture with my son between us. He really wanted to be in the picture as well . Also, here is the beginning stages of the European Mount of my buck. It was quite the morning!
