I agree that bushwaking to get to the spot is a good way to scare them out. It all depends on wind and how your sound carries. Your first day hunting would be well spent working towards your spot vs getting there before daylight. You may be suprised where you hear or find elk on the way. I rarely find elk in a specific spot where I expect them to be.
