Trapping Thread 2024/2025

If you're close enough to Sedalia (within an hour) shoot me an PM.
I can make some stuff disappear for you.

Im always down for the fellow hunter's cause.
Nope. More than two hours. We’ll figure it out.

I’m hoping we see good results from TSI on another place to improve habitat, and dad will agree to do it on this place too.

The garden cage traps have been pretty quiet, but picked up another young on on Saturday. The Wyoming State Trappers Association is being held this weekend, just up the road from me, so I went for a couple hours after work yesterday. Picked up some different lures to try this fall/winter and some for the coons this summer. We’ll see if my success picks up!

Riding a little high right now, but forgot my phone for pics.

Land owner got in touch with me yesterday and said he had groundhogs pretty bad…..

I set three 1.5 dukes and caught three first pull.

Gonna reset and see if we can get more. Based off how spaced away they were from eachother I have a feeling there are a lot.

Little ones should be popping out to feed too! Three for three tells me there’s room for a few more traps!

I’ve had a few snapped cage traps this week and I’m not sure if there was something inside that got backed out or if the wind blew them shut. One of them is down low next to a seep that I think is irrigation recharge somehow. That trap got flooded out this week. After the flood, there were tracks all around the snapped cage in the mud. Either they are on to me or I have more reasons to hate these cheap traps.

I figured if I have some trap shy critters, I used some actual trapping lure in the cage traps and then set out a dog proof with the same combo I’ve been tossing in the cages. I was full of confidence leaving the traps last night after resetting everything. Humbled this morning with all empty traps, 2 cages and one dog-proof.

I’ve had two cage traps set near the garden, each night all week. I’m up to my 6th raccoon as of this morning (10 since I started trapping around the garden). Lots of young of the year moving right now. Still seeing tracks avoiding the traps every night too. I did set one DP for a few nights, even though I don’t really have a good spot to set them for a few reasons. Snapped a big mama raccoon in that.

I keep catching these dang things around the garden. Been keeping records and looked back this morning to tally everything. Since the garden trapping started on June 9th, I’ve caught 15. 4 of those were from this morning. I had caught one in a cage trap yesterday and didn’t get back to reset. So I had one cage set and 4 DP’s set over night. 4/5 isn’t bad.IMG_3811.jpegIMG_3807.jpeg

We really need to learn how to do this and we need to get on it

Hot sunny day and a tarp. Lay your dirt thin on it and let it dry out good. Spread flake wax on top of it and let the sun melt it in then mix it up. Can test it once it cools by putting some in your hand and putting some water on it. The water should pool up vs soak in

Thank you. We will do that. We will grab some flake wax at the FTA this week
