I recently got a new carbon stock for my tikka t3. As far as dropping the action in, the inletting appeared to be perfect. However, I had to take a dremel to the inletting on the bottom, as the trigger guard piece was super tight. I was careful and now it's snug, but it will go in. The issue is that when I got it in, I was not able to get the magazine to click in. I'm using an aluminum after-market trigger guard, which has been without issue for the last few years on a different stock.
It took me a while to get my head around it, but I found that if I tightened the action screw by the trigger first, then the one to the forward, I can get the magazine to click, but just barely. Looking at it and thinking about it, I'm thinking that the distance between where the action sits and where the top of the trigger guard piece sits, is smaller than it was on the old stock. I confirmed that with a tape measure. It seems to be about 3/32" shorter.
Interestingly, the trigger guard piece appears to be just proud of the stock towards the rear, as if it should have been inletted a bit more, ideally (or the inletting should have been less on the front). I don't know if I really have a problem at this point. I haven't shot it yet, or cycled rounds in this stock, but the magazine does click in. That said, I wish it went in as effortlessly as it used to.
Has anyone run into this problem before? Did you figure out any tricks for creating a bit more space (I'm wondering about a shim of some sort)? Or, do you think my diagnosis is off and there's something else going on? I'd just be curious to hear if others have run into this issue. Thanks!
