Throwing away a bear hide?

I currently have 4 bear hides in the freezer (sons and my own). Already have several rugs and more hides than I can count. Don't really want to spend $149/foot to have them tanned to just add to the already too big pile of hides. But, in my mind it just seems wrong to toss them. The hunts were great and the meat was all utilized but I'm torn on what to do with them. Thoughts?
I hope you didn't throw them away! It seems like a waste

Have you considered tanning your self? My wife and I did a coyote and man it turned out slick. If I were close to you I'd give it a shot on one of your hides, LOL.
An old thread, but as long as itbeen revived, I'll chip in...

About 100 years ago when I moved to Montana I lived at a Forest Service Ranger Station a little south of Eureka. I was seeing a lot of bears up there, and I decided to shoot one. I already had a bear rug from a bear that I had previosly shot when I lived in Colorado, so I thought that I would try to mount this one myself.

I bought a hide tanning kit from the Tandy Leather store in Kalispell to use to tan the hide. I don't remember if I salted the hide first, but when I took the hide out of the tanning solution, much of the hair slipped and the leather turned blue. That hide went to the dump.

Instead of boiling the skull, I thought red ants would clean it, so I put the skull on top of an ant hill, covered it with a 5 gallon bucket, and weighted that down with a big rock. The District Ranger also lived on that compound and he had a Husky that he let run free. His Husky knocked the bucket over and chewed up my bear skull. So the skull also went to the dump.

At least we processed all of the bear meat and enjoyed eating it.
