They shot all of the 3x3s and 2x2s no 4xs mule deer, go figure

Hello, my name is Chad. I paid 760.00 for a non-res Montana deer tag. I drove 1000 miles to Terry from Minneapolis and thought it was best to set my wall tent up right where all the deer live so I was out of the wind. I missed a big 3pt on opening day and then shot this big framed 2pt off a state section as I drove by the last night ( I even got a shoutout on the IG page @trophybucksandbullsofmontana). My wife will be thrilled and I can justify the 1500.00 I spent. The locals hate me, and even dedicated a 3600 post thread on HT dedicated to me and my comrades from WI and WA. But man, I can't wait to come back and do it again. In the meantime, I'm excited to get back home, sit in my box blind next to my buddy heater, and stack up another 2yo 46" whitey. I'm 48 now and have been doing it since I was 12 yo. All about the tradition. The mule deer will get freezer burnt cause it tastes like shit but at least my wife is proud of me. Big framed buck from MT. Nothing better.
Congrats. I guess. Come back next year. You all do. mtmuley

Grateful to you and your family for your service and sacrifice. CO has mature bucks because of antler point restrictions during hunting seasons. (edited)FALSE! CO no longer has antler point restrictions on deer. I'm so ashamed.
Wow when did they do that? I remember when the elk were 4 point minimum but I don’t remember when that was.

@warmer glad to be here. My buddy is still out there if you know of any good spots. Doesn't need to be an old buck, just big framed. DM me if you have any pins. I use OnX. Love the BMA layer. Plenty of private ground to explore and shoot out. Private raised, public killed? Not necessary - he'd settle for a surprise 'school trust buck' but prefers a type 1 BMA buck. His wife told him if he shoots one younger than mine we'd have to title our YouTube video 'Epstienbucks'. Bet he can pimp a youngster better than Jeff and Ghislaine. Our fans will be the final judge.

Bull elk in many units still need 4 antler points. Antler point restrictions for deer ended 1992, after having tested or applied them for a multi-year period.

From 2026 CPW regs for elk:

Antler Point Restrictions
An antler point is a projection of the antler at least 1 inch long and which is longer than the width of its base. A brow tine means a projection of the antler at least 5 inches long located on the lower half of the antler.

  • Bull elk taken in all seasons must have four points or more on one antler, OR a brow tine of at least 5 inches long in GMUs: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 52, 53, 54, 55, 59, 60, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79*, 80, 81, 82, 83, 85, 86, 131, 140, 161, 171, 181, 191, 211, 214, 231, 301, 361, 371, 411, 421, 431, 441, 444, 471, 511, 521, 551, 581, 591, 681, 691, 711, 741, 751, 771, 851 and 861.
