Kansas has very few feral hogs compared to our neighbors to the south and east. Making pig hunting not legal seems to have disincentivized introduction of more pigs, and getting buy-in from land owners to allow wholesale trapping of entire sounders of pigs has kept the invasive pig population under 500 pigs for years.

As jobs go being a "paid pig helicopter gunner" would be better than some they push at "career day". Interesting angle on the suspended traps being ignored. Piggys are pretty sharp, I didn't know they had a chink in their armour. I've had cow issues, less now that they are walking gold ingots.

We started hearing a lot about wild boars 10 years ago. The reports were painting a doomsday-like future, where these winter hardened Eurasian wild boars would take Saskatchewan over and turn it into a barren wasteland. 10 years later and I've yet to see a single live wild pig. I've found an old weathered mandible 5 years ago and nothing else since, they're here, but no where near the doomsday numbers people predicted

The main thing is that only residents can kill them, it is illegal to guide or outfit wild pig hunting, it is illegal to charge for access and the gov't has been actively trapping them with good success. Simply put, there isn't a way to monetize them and it sounds like that's the key to controlling them, much like Kansas.

I'm sure all the other states will fall into line now...

I'm guessing the populations of many southern states would be up in arms about actually getting rid of pigs, at this point. We've had one or two scares up here, where some pigs got established in an area and our DEC came out vocally about people not hunting them and allowing for biologist-run trapping to deal with the issue. Seemed to work well!
