The “Greatest” Weapon in Film History

My favorite Sci-Fi Action Film ever is the original Predator. It is loaded with brash characters and sacrificial warriors that are up against a superior HUNTER that’s here for a challenging good time.

The weapon that every kid drooled over was Ol’ Painless. My fingers tingled at the thought of mowing down flesh and forest while spitting out my sexual tyrannosaur fuel into a mix of mud, sweat and blood.

Ol' Painless" in
Predator (1987) is a General Electric M134 Minigun chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. To enable handheld use by Jesse Ventura, it was modified to fire at a reduced rate of roughly 1,250 rounds per minute, or about 20.8 rounds per second, though the real weapon can fire up to 6,000 RPM.

I propose that it is the most iconic weapon to ever grace the silver screen. It’s metal oozed sexy. The electric spin screamed fear. The flame of combustion sent death. For a bonus, Ol’ Painless returned in Terminator 2.

What say you?

I think my favorite weapon scene is from Quigley Down Under with his big rifle.

Bond with the PPK is iconic.

Jeremy Renner’s 45-70 in Wind River was sick, and also Chris Pratt has similar in the newer Jurassic Park movies that kind of rocked as well.

The Minigun scene in Predator 1 was pretty all time. Plus Minnesota boy Jesse was there to make us proud. If there’s one thing a Minnesotan loves it’s a famous Minnesotan.

Great choices! I was pondering the “Quigley.” My buddy and I watched that movie just a few times as kids.

“But seeing as this is a 44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself a question; do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?”

This is the only movie I can recall seeing where I actually went out and bought the gun. Albeight I got the stainless 629 which may have not been in production when the movie was made with a 29 instead. It didn’t matter that over 30 years had passed since that movie came out and the .44 magnum was no longer the most powerful. Dirty Harry said it was back then so I still wanted it a generation later lol.

Classic. Iconic.

I always liked the scene in Indiana Jones with the guy is twirling his sword all fancy and then Harrison Ford just shoots him.

An absolute classic. I loved it too, but ended up with an Anaconda eventually. I miss that pistol.

Really hard to beat Ol' Painless, despite Jesse getting taken out before the action.

My all time favorite is cheating a bit. Its the extraction scene from Act of Valor. The combined firepower being unleashed, WOW!

The extraction boats (SOC-R) in Act of Valor are equipped with massive firepower to support SEAL team extraction, featuring twin forward-mounted GAU-17 miniguns, an aft-mounted .50 caliber machine gun, and twin side-mounted M240B 7.62mm machine guns. These boats also feature 40mm Mk 19 grenade launchers and provide intense, rapid suppressing fire, often described as a "hot" extraction.
