The governmental wheels are in motion to build a cable car on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. (Tanzania, East Africa) Before the pandemic started nearly 50K tourists visited the region, with more than 30,000 people attempting to climb the world's largest free standing mountain. The proponents of this idea say it would make it easier for youth and elderly to attempt the climb, and increase tourism interests.

I think corollary actions in the States might include building more roads in Yellowstone, or building cogged railways or roads onto 14ers in Colorado (looking at you Pikes Peak!) Or why not build a cable car into Everest base camp?

I hope such an "improvement" will not be built, and I hope that we here in the States will be able to keep wilderness areas free of modern encroachments.

How timely. Just this evening I was trying to convince my wife we need to do the Kilimanjaro trek before we get to much older. Better get on it!
