I was looking for a rifle. The guy answered me with an email address of a friend that had one for sale. The pm he sent me has it. I contacted the guy. We went back and forth with all the usual pictures and questions. I sent the seller my FFL info that he had asked for. He asked to send it to his buddies PayPal account. I paid by PayPal, not friends and family he asked for. The PayPal address I sent to was not the recipient but the name was the same and the seller acknowledged receiving it. A few minutes later I got a text supposedly from PayPal saying that my payment had been refunded and if I wanted to continue to resubmit the payment. I did not. I went to PayPal and see that it had been changed to friends and family. The seller said not to worry about it that he did have my money in his account. It has been dead air from that point.

Talk about dead air, when Paypal learns you purchased anything gun related, they usually won't cover it if the deal goes sour. Don't use Paypal for ANYTHING dealing with firearms. There might be an exception here or there, but not worth the headache.

There's a couple weird things. The guy didn't have my phone number for the text. The text didn't actually originate from PayPal, I didn't notice that until later. PayPal changed from products and service to the friends and family. PayPal didn't know what the payment was for.

BTW a while back I was getting a scope from @Dave N . I sent the $$ to the address Dave gave me. PayPal misdirected it to a different email address. PP said because I had sent it friends and family that there was nothing they could do even though it was their "mistake". Eventually the guy that got the payment refunded it. There's something or someone inside PP that isn't playing by the rules.

As expected, PP doesn't care that they have an internal security issue. They suggested that I call my CC company that was super helpful and they would take it up with PP.

Something you could do is call
346-535-4223. That's the number that sent me the text telling me to resend the $$ because PP is refunding my $300.00
If you want give it a call and see if someone actually answers.

I didn't know that. Thanks a lot!
