spoonbill season

A spoonbill is a wading bird. Like an Eggret with a birth defect. The end of the beak is flared and rounded and shaped like a spoon.

Dan, it is also a large prehistoric fish sometimes called a paddlefish. They are the only fish to be allowed to be caught by 'snagging' as they are plankton eaters.

Thanks Dan and srr. I have heard of paddlefish but I have never seen a paddlefish. A friend of mine goes for paddlefish every year and that is where I have heard of them. The things we learn on the Internet.

I knew people that snagged those things around the Quad City's back in the 60's. Looked like a helluva fight.
