Still out in western Nebraska. Drove from Chadron and scouted some birds in the Black Hills, South Dakota. No luck on Tuesday afternoon. We noted where they went to roost. Wednesday we arrived early. We set up 360 yards apart. Soon birds gobbling. Then things go quiet. I call every 20 minutes or so. Out of the corner of my eye while sitting in my blind I see a hen and 3 Jake's at 6 feet. They came in silent from behind me. Out of the corner of my eye, on the opposite side of the blind a big white blob walks by at 4 feet. Its the tom in half strut. I'm covered in birds and dare not move in the blind. The tom turns, sees my DSD jake and goes into full strut. I manage to get my gun up without spooking all the birds and shoot him at 25 yards.
Part 2. I call my buddy and tell him I shot a tom. As I am getting things organized I hear a shot. I call him and he says he just shot a tom... 10 minutes after I shot mine. My buddies bird had a beautiful bronze color. Almost like a Rio. 20200513_083326.jpg
