If point creep doesn't get us, my son and I are hunting pronghorn in Wy for three days then he's hunting second season OTC elk in Co. The unit we're looking at has a recent burn area at 6 to 8k but a lot of access and roads through it. There's also a wilderness area about 15 miles away that ranges from 9,500 to over 12k. We plan on base camping so we can be mobile. I figure we'll have two days to scout and three days to hunt, all during the week. How would you go about spending those two days? Driving through the burn and hiking to likely spots or hitting the wilderness first? I'll be sixty one by then and have about 5 - 6 daily miles in me unless we are stopping to glass alot. I plan to hunt rabbits and grouse if the opportunity arises and if I can figure out what a spruce grouse looks like.
