It’s so you can change the size of your pants over the course of a hunt or with different base layers and you don’t need to use a belt under your waste strap. I personally like the feature.

Until the velcro fails, which mine did.
I use the pants more than the average person, I suppose. Never once needed to play around with the velcro adjustment for extra room.
