I am the original owner of a pair of Swarovski 10X42 SLC binoculars. I turned in the warranty registration immediately upon purchase (2003) and still have all the original paperwork.
Based on what I've heard from others my expectation was that they would repair whatever was wrong at no charge, assuming there was no signs of abuse. From the outside my SLCs look as good as new. (See this thread for reports of free Swarvo repairs after falling out the back of a truck or even out of a plane: https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/swarovski-is-awesome.260937/ )
I recently turned my SLCs in and reported two issues, first that both eyecups have a tendency to fall off, and second that the overall clarity just isn’t what it used to be.
I just received an email from Swarvo (to be fair, they were very prompt with this part of the process) informing me that the issue with the clarity was that “both prisms are broken” and requiring $400 to repair them. I don’t know how others see it, but the reason I justified paying so much for these originally was #1 the quality of the product and #2 that I would never have to worry about them again. It’s possible they may have fallen out of my arms a time or two while carrying a load of gear to my truck, but THEY WERE NEVER ABUSED. I just never expected to have to pay so much for a repair under their lifetime warranty.
Am I wrong? What has your experience been with the Swarovski warranty program?
