So Cal Bass Pro

Del - it is getting hard to find gun shops around here. It is getting so I have to drive 20 miles or more to find a place that sells gun powder and other components. Turner's Outdoorsman has them, but they are at least $1 a pound more than elsewhere.

I would prefer a Cabelas, but will take what I can get. It would not surprise me to see Cabelas open a store, as I expect the Bass Pro to be a big hit! It will become a tourist attraction!!!

You guys on the far left coast have it tuff. Maybe a bass pro would be good out there but here they put the Mom and Pop shops out of busness. I can think of 3 gun shops with in a 10 mile area where there once was 10 shops.

Here, the local governments put the mom and pop shops out of business. They cannot get a license to open or they cannot renew their license. (A business license, not their FFL.) Also, the state and Feds both spend a lot of time out here auditing the paperwork of all the little shops. The fines for little or insignificant errors add up for the independent owner. Hell, they forced Walmat to stop selling guns here - how is a little guy going to stay in business?

Turner's Outdoorsman has helped put a lot of the little shops in So Cal out of business, though. They can't compete with Turner's sale prices and advertising money. Turner's doesn't carry the stuff that real gun nuts want, though - just the standard ammo, .30-06 and .270 rifles, etc. It was always nice to go into a little shop that had all the powder and bullets you might want and who would be happy to special order a firearm for you at a decent mark up.

Be sure to try the restraunt in Bass Pro. The new one in Mesa is spectacular. The store isn't bad, either.

What I liked about the local shop was you knew everyone and we all had a good time telling hunting & fishing stories and who is cheating , I'll let you figure out on what :-}. Most of us got our 1st gun at a Mom and Pop shop, learned what kind of cartridge or shell to use, got a little razzing from the older guys because we were consider tenderfoots but the time came when we were the experanced hunters and now you have to rely on a stranger to sell a young hunter what he needs and most of these big mega stores are in it for one thing the all mighty $. Gone are the days of the coke machine on a wooden porch and a few old chairs where stories were told.

What the he.. that's progress

It seems the ATF spends alot of time at our local shops going through paper work. I was told everytime they recover a stolen gun, they start back tracing were it came from, then go through all their pas paperwork.

The laws are tupid here. If I buy a handgun, the shop has to make a copy of utlity bill, or car regisration as a second form of ID.
Hell they take my thumb print, cant the DOJ figure the rest of the shit out themselves for the $35 it costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!|oo

neahhh bass-pro calabelas they are just a high price place. Been to both and walmart is still cheeper then them. Just a show place to me lol

The biggest we got here is Sportsmans Warehouse, their prices aren't bad and have everything I need for reloading. Cabelas opens in the fall in Verdi just across the Nevada Line.

CaHntr has the lowdown on the big picture in Cal. The space cadets in Sac have clouded the picture so bad that the mom & pops can't comply. Walmart gave up and Turner's is squeeking by. I'm surprised that Sportman's, BassPro and Cabela's even want to try to navigate the ridiculous mess the Bozo's in the State Capital have created.

That's why I moved!

PS - I heard that they were expecting over 20,000 people for the BassPro opener. That's a small parking lot for 20,000 shoppers. Have fun with the crowds.
