Snowshoes

OK, I put an old pair on today and tried them out on the golf course. I had a pretty good time and would like to get a decent pair of shoes now. I am looking for recommedations.

Approximately how much do the run?

Solid or mesh?

Are the bindings different from one pair to another?

If the bindings are different, which is the better ones to go with?

I have never used snowshoes, but I did find some at discount through REI-outlet today. I am not sure if these are any good, but it is a good sale.

The ones I have are aluminum frames and rawhide mesh interiors with a crude leather binding. They worked fine but if there is something better I wouldn't mind gettting some. I have two pair of these that LB got at the yard sales.

I have Ojibwa style snowshoes. They are good in deep snow and wooded areas. If you do serious snowshoeing, often with a load, in deep snow and have to traverse wooded areas these are the best I've found. There are several sources for these.

I just use an 'H' style binding which is very flexible and STAYS ON, which keeps you from going crazy.

I have a pair of Tubbs with the newer style cam lock binding system. A lot more user freindly then the old strap system expecially when it is cold and you have gloves on and all. They are spendy however, around $225 a couple years ago. The binding also swivels on the shoe which is usefull going up steeper slopes but doesn't help out much going back down. On flat areas it doesn't matter so much. Get the poles as well, puts some of the workout on the upper body and not just the legs. Adjustable ones cost about $50.

Thanks for the help guys. I came across these today. They are used and will be in a yard sale this weekend. They are used and I can get them for $50. I don't know whether to get them for the $50 or look over the summer and get a pair for a lot cheaper.
