Camping with the Scout this weekend.
While the boys were doing a hike, I snuck away with one of the other parents, and drove over Kaiser pass to Florence lake.
We boated a few German Browns, of course the big one got away right at the boat, but the scenery made the trip.
As you can see, the high country got a dusting of much needed snow.

Ahh yes!! Familar with the view.
I had a cabin @ Huntington Lake below there for 20yrs. Know those mountains well. Did a lot of packing fishing and hunting in the "Rock Pile"
Normally you might be not able to get thru Kaiser pass this early. I've seen 40 ft of snow there!!
You surely wouldn't be standing next to Florence without 5 ft of snow on shore...

As you can see, Florence is down 60+ feet.
The entire dam is high and dry.
The first pic on the second post is the main river input, I believe it's the South fork of the San Joaquin river. Anyway, usually it's 80 feet wide and 20 deep at that spot, just 200 feet from the main lake.

While trolling 20-25 feet deep, I was dragging bottom out in the middle.
I hope they get more rain/snow. I'm afraid if these high country lakes get too low/warm, the trout will die off.
