Sell Me on a Bipod/Tripod

I've shot several animals off my backpack Uncle Randy-style but I'm really only solid to 200ish that way. I've practiced shooting off my spotting scope tripod with the scope swing down and am sort of comfortable that way, especially when I can get my pack under the buttstock for rear support. So, this year, I'm leaning toward putting a bipod on my Western hunting rifles. Goal is for something strong, relatively light but more importantly unobtrusive and able to be mounted using the existing sling studs on my Pure Precision Altitude carbon fiber stocks.

The Spartan Javelin series looks pretty interesting and would allow quick change between multiple rifles but I'm not wed to those just yet. Any insights on the Spartans or other recommendations? Should I forget the bipod and go Arca-plate and tripod? Should I just spend the time and money practicing shooting offhand, like Jesus Christ and Sgt. York intended?
I have the Spartan and love it. Expensive, but worth it in my opinion I have the mount on several rifles, easy to just throw in pocket or pack and take off. Saves that weight dangling from front of rifle.

I've been using the spartan hunter pro hunt tac bipod for the last three years now. its great when I need it and when I don't I got the FHF gear bipod holster that I keep it in on my hip strap on the pack. Its super light, so i don't notice it when not in use. My hunting buddy just got one to for this year. We also got the Salmon River Solutions trinity rail. It's an arca, pic and spartan all in one.

I've been looking at the gunwerks elevate 2.0 or the tricer-RP. Both really light and adjust from prone to sitting height.

The important take away here is that we see all of these men every year on Fresh Tracks. The only one who wasn’t overconfident was the one who had never rifle hunted. No matter what accessories we use, ain’t nothing beats getting closer.

Being a still hunter I cannot make use of a bipod but I have altered my movements to keep a tree close by to steady my rifle on if there is time. I have one stand that I use that I recently purchased a trigger stick to help steady my hold. It helps. As I get older I find I need to make more use of accoutrements more and more to ensure success and a clean kill. Good luck with your bipod.

Harris S-25 Shoot prone very solid but most of the time is sitting due to vegetation. If the weight bothers you, how are you ever going to haul the critter out?

Anyone used one of the new ones mdt came out with this year?

I have and have used Harris, Spartan and hatch out west. My vote solidly goes to the hatch. Can qd from a pic rail and get as low as you want or shoot sitting to kneeling and are very fast to adjust.

What didn't you like about the spartan? Or why the hatch over the rest?

Good lord they're $540...

I like that they extend up to the seated position height, but I'd still go gunwerks or tricer. Both are quite a bit lighter. Especially if you're dropping that kind of coin on one.

I like the Spartans, but they don't have the adjustability of the other mentioned ones.

I posted before, but check out the primos magna switch. They use the spartan attachment system but are under $200. Easy to switch and mount to multiple guns. They sell prone, kneeling, and standing size too.

I know the system isn’t insta famous but it’s solid, fits in a side pocket and can be deployed in seconds.

The spartan works fine but to me seems to have more slop and far less adjustable. They also take more time to extend or collapse to actually achieve the desired height. Yes, the hatch are expensive but it is the most adjustable bipod I know of that lets me do what I want.

Tricer tripods.. lightweight, strong, I’ve had mine for not too long long but I’m more impressed than any other I’ve used 🤙🏽

I've used and own 3 bipods, Harris and one other.

I sometimes throw one on a rifle for a pronghorn hunt, but very seldom.

I just shoot prone off my pack since nowhere I typically hunt doesn't have ground/dirt to throw a pack on.

I do have a rear bag I carry, zip lock full of freeze dried rice in a crown royal bag. Dual purpose, great rear bag and if the shit hits the fan, could cook the rice if in a pinch.

I've killed elk out to 620 that way.

I just dont care to have a bipod on a rifle much anymore and no way I would spend 200-500 for one.

Should be able to get pretty stable with a frame pack and crossed trekking poles.

Using bipods/tripods on near every stage of a NRL hunter matches has me orienting my stuff a little more that way or going tripod only. Tough part is finding a balance of weight/stability in a shooting tripod. Im thinking i'll use a Leofoto SO-282CMX cut down even shorter for a hunting glassing/shooting tripod.
