While working on a job across the border I ran across a piece of public land that is opened up for SD youth tag holders this year for the first time. This is normally just open to archery hunters and a few lucky Muzzy hunters who wait about a decade to draw the tag according ot the people in charge at the facility.

There has been some EHD die off in the area but there is still a large deep population. I have seen some really nice deer coming and going from the job the last few weeks. If you have a youth hunter with tag for the southern part of the state send me a PM and I'll let you know about a great spot to go hunting.

Thats a great offer 556. I wish I was closer. Its always nice to see the G&F offering opportunities to young people.

Youth tags are valid statewide, but are antlerless only.

Well shucks. Didn't' realize the SD won't let kids hunt bucks. I guess if you are looking for an easy place to shoot a doe with a young hunter it would still be a good spot.

Yes it is. Glad to see SD opening up some areas for kids during rifle season. Nebraska offers $5 youth tags for NR's , deer and turkey. I think Kansas does the best job with a early youth season before anybody else gets to hunt. Great to get out with the kids when the weather is still nice and you don't' have to battle the orange army.
