Just got a Ruger carbine 44 mag for black bear over bait next fall. Should do the job.

I recount a few piggies that would rather I didn't have my Model 96 come BBQ time ! Good guns.

I have 2 of the Deerfield carbines and they are great little guns. . devastating on our whitetails!!

Wouldn't mind having one, since it would be legal to use for deer in my area now. Used to be a shotgun only zone.

Make sure you are using it during the "correct" times and not during the rifle season. I was pretty pumped when I heard about this too. But then I reread the dates and was sadly mistaken:

"Centerfire or rimfire rifles may be used Dec. 1 – Nov. 9 in the Limited Firearm Deer
Zone (see pg. 12) during the open season for all species, except deer, turkey,
and migratory game birds. Certain rifles capable of using .35 caliber or larger
ammunition, with a straight-walled cartridge that has a minimum case length of
1.16 and a maximum case length of 1.80 inches and a .35 caliber or larger air rifle
or pistol charged only from an external high compression power source (external
hand pump, air tank, or air compressor), may be used in the Limited Firearm Deer
Zone when taking deer. "

Notice it says Dec 1 - Nov 9. Not the other way around. That, in essence, makes it so you can't use the centerfire during the rifle season. So, if you are hunting the early doe, Liberty Hunt, Independence Hunt, or late doe you can use the centerfire. Not during the Nov 15th-30 rifle/shotgun season.
