Today was the last day of our bear pursuit season, so I thought just one more bear huh?hump I loaded all six males and put them down just after daylight. I could hear them treed by 7:30 AM, so I started working my way into them. It was a rough, long canyon with lots of blowdown. I heard the bear come down once and climb again in a short distance.

The next tree was closed than the first, and I was there before all the dogs made it to the bear. My five year old choco dog had gotten bitten on the left hind leg and was a little slow making it to the second tree. Upon closer examination, that hound had a right front canine broken off at the gum line. If you look really close you can see a lump on his nose which is that tooth laid back.|oo

What a way to end bear season.

Curly,

Thanks for the well wishes on my Choco dog. I did take him into the vet that same evening and they knocked him out, finished removing the upper canine and gave me some pain pills and antibiotics for him. Choco was bruised pretty well from the bit and will be sore for a few days but should heal up fine, all but the missing canine. I suppose that will hinder his ability to hang onto a bear to some degree in the future?

Keep'em treed,
ike
