When your out in the desert for an over night try this; get a rabbit (shot or snare)
find a *****ly pear cactus with large pads (becarful of the spines) start a good fire with mesquite or other hard wood and while it burning down to coals, clean your rabbit and singe off the spines of your pad then cut it open so it's like a book if you lucky and brought some veggies put them inside the
rabbit along with a little salt and pepper
then put it inside the cactus pad and close it over . then make a small pit next to your fire, line the bottom of the pit with good coals( about 2"deep), set your cactus pad on top of the coals and cover it with about 2" of coals, cover the pit with dirt and leave it for about an hour then dig it up
I think you will truly enjoy the rabbit
because the meat will literally fall of the bone and it's tender too! this is a fun recipe to teach children how too sirvive in the desert with class. enjoy
