rifle for beginner/youth- bolt? single shot? other?

100% get what what you say about hunting with youth hunters and follow up shots. I agree take all the shots needed but the shots and deer taken I mentioned previously where made by 37-40 year old hunters in my camp.

Also my camp of 5 hunters including me is up to 5 deer so far this season and I haven’t seen anything yet myself so at least someone is pulling a trigger I suppose.

Zone 604 is getting pretty empty after 7 seasons of CWD management. I haven’t shot a deer in 4 years there.

One thing I notice around here is if I hear one shot, I'll hear a second. Sometimes immediately, sometimes 2-3 minutes later, or somewhere in between. Single shots are rare.
I shoot 2-3 deer a year and honestly can't remember the last time I shot a deer more than once. I specifically remember one in the late 90s but I'm sure there has been one since then.

Bad first shots or just people making sure they don't have to take any meat from the shoulders?
