I've been using the S2PRO on and off for about two to three months. This is my first thermal imaging device, so I'm still learning, but it's been an interesting experience so far.

Everyday Use

I've used it during the day and at night to look at buildings, trees, people, vehicles, and other everyday heat sources.

One of the most interesting things I've noticed is how long heat can remain on a surface. For example, I looked at a spot where I'd pressed my hand against a surface and could still see the heat left behind. I've also tried observing my air conditioner, computer, and car tires.

I haven't tested it in the field or measured observation distances yet, so I can't comment on its effective range for spotting or identifying animals.

Handling and Image Quality

The S2PRO feels compact and comfortable to hold. I like the recessed area on the bottom because it fits the curve of my hand, and the included wrist strap is handy.

I've used it both handheld and on a tripod with the 1/4-inch screw mount. Connecting it to my phone is convenient for viewing photos and videos and downloading files directly.

The manual focus ring and diopter adjustment are useful, too. With the right adjustments, I can get a clear view without wearing my glasses.

When looking at buildings in the distance, the image looks reasonably clear, although I haven't measured the actual distances. I've also experimented with the different color palettes and found that some work better than others depending on the scene.

The digital zoom is useful when I want a closer look, but the image gets blurrier as magnification increases. At the maximum 8× setting, the loss of detail was noticeable.

What I Like and Dislike

What I like:

Compact design that's comfortable to hold

Tripod mounting option

Convenient photo and video management through the phone app

Multiple color palettes to try in different situations

Manual focus and diopter adjustments

What I dislike:

The lens cap isn't attached to the device, so it's easy to misplace.

The first Wi-Fi connection took me a while to figure out, although the connection guide video helped.

For reference, the S2PRO has a 256 × 192 native detector resolution, AI Super Resolution up to 320 × 240, a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, and 32 GB of built-in storage.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I've enjoyed using the S2PRO and exploring what thermal imaging can do. As a beginner, I've found it surprisingly interesting to see heat patterns in everyday surroundings. I still have plenty to learn, especially when it comes to using a thermal monocular outdoors.
