Rifle Elk Caliber and Bullet Choice for 2023

Well

I got these ready to go

.30 Nosler. 210 Gr Barns LRX
.28 Nosler 160Gr Accubonds
300 WM. 180 Gr Accubonds
30-06. 178 Gr Hornady Precision

Last year I took out the 6.5-300. She’s going deer hunting this year. Probably take my .30 Nosler. Unless I bear hunt then I may take the 338 ME as a duo combo. Subject to change at anytime. Ask me tomorrow.

Primary is 7mm Rem Mag, 150 gr CX, H4831SC, 3155 fps, 600-yd range
Backup is 308 Win, 165 gr TBT, Factory load but I get 2800 fps out of my 22' barrel, 400 yd range, I practice to 800 yds on both

I had to make some calls if you gave a choice or wasn't sure which one to use. How about this variety of calibers and ammo that we're going to use on elk? Here's what we have so far:

Volume, Caliber, Bullet State

1 => 35 Whelen w/ 225 gr Nosler AB - handload - CO 1st
1 => 375 H&H w/ 250 gr TTSX - WY
1 => 300 RUM NA - NA
1 => 7mm Mag w/ 160 gr Nosler AB - NA
1 => 300 WinMag w/ 166 gr Hammer Hunters - NA
1 => 6.5 PRC w/ 156 gr Bergers - CO 1st
1 => 30-06 w/ 200 gr Partitions - NA
1 => 338 WinMag w/ 225 gr Barnes TTSX -handload - NA
1 => 6.5 Creedmoor w/ 130 TMK(156 Berger) - CO 3rd
1 => 30-06 w/ 166 gr Hammer Hunter - NA
1 => 280 AI w/ 150 gr TTSX - MT
1 => 30-06 NA - NA
1 => 50 Cal Encore w/ 250 gr Barnes TEZ - NA
1 => 300 PRC w/ 199 gr HH - NA
1 => 30-06 w/ 165 gr Nosler AB - WY
1 => 30-06 w/ 180 gr Copper - NA
1 => 6 Dasher w/ 109 gr ELD - NA
1 => 300 H&H w/ 180 Partitions - OR
1 => 30 Nosler w/ 210 gr Barnes LRX - NA

Two options, and a wild card.

Likely #1 - .300 PRC with HH 199 handload
#2 depending - .30-06 with HH 137 handloads

Wildcard - .300 RUM with HH 181 handloads.
How you like that 300PRC? I just about bought a Christensen in it a few weeks ago.

338 Federal with 160 TTSX for a WY general, don't know the specific load yet because the rifle isn't built yet. If that doesn't come through in time it will be a 308 with 130 TTSX pushed by AR-Comp.

For me it will likely be:
7mm mag with 140 gr Sierra GameKings, but possibly 140 gr Barnes TTSX

For my son:
7mm-08 with 139 gr Hornady GMX or 140 gr Barnes TTSX

Both will be used on cows in WY and hopefully bulls in UT if we are able to get our general tags (my son is a youth, so his is guaranteed).
