I have had 5 pairs of Meindl Alaskan Hunters all bought in the early 2000’s And I am down to one left. I’ve also worn Lowa Tibets and various Asolo boots. It looks like Meindl quality may be down a bit (I could live with that) but more importantly the model is no longer available. Does anybody have a recommendation for a boot that fits like the old Meindls?

Schnee's Beartooth or Granite are what I'd look at if you were trying to duplicate the old Meindls.

Granite is stiffer, you can get either uninsulated or insulated.

I was in the exact same boat as you and I now have a pair of the granite's. They don't fit my foot quite as well as I feel that the meindl's did, but that is just a personal preference and they are definitely a quality boot.

I’m interested in this, as I have a pair of meindls I need to replace. I bought them in 2011 from cabelas. My holdup is not being able to try them on before purchasing. What are the quality issues you know/heard about?

I feel they changed a bit after Cabelas(vakkum)quit carrying them. Used to fit great now seem sloppy. Might give them one more attempt after I wear my kenetrek out.

Euro optic has a pretty good sale on Schnee’s right now. I just bought a pair of Beartooth 10.5w. They fit like a dream. Just measure your foot on a Brannock device and if you’re on the edge between two half sizes, pick the larger of the two.

I would suggest the Tibets. We’d need to know if you liked them. Otherwise, there’s a large variety of euro boots to choose from. I wore Tibets and moved to Crispi Birksdahl boots. They’re tougher than you’d think a light boot should be.

I bought a new pair of Vakuums a few months ago. They fit exactly the same as my two previous Cabelas versions. Love them.
