reminder to check your freezers

Just a reminder to all...check your freezers!

Mine is now empty because it crapped out on me while I was on a trip to Nebraska. I was out of game meat but it did have nearly 200lbs of beef in it. I'm disappointed to say the freezer (Kenmore) was only 6 weeks old.

That sucks! You made it through the spring/summer floods only to have your freeze take a crap on you while you were out of state. Hope you have a good season to fill up a new one or a replacement!

Luckily Sears is easy to work with. They are going to make things right with the freezer. I did learn that their extra protection insurance they try to sell you would have covered the cost of replacing the meat. Next time I'll probably opt for the extra snake oil insurance on a freezer.

They do cover it with the insurance but you have to keep receipts to prove what was in it and how much you spent. Not sure if it is worth the trouble. We have a light hooked up on the same breaker so if all of a sudden the light is off, we know the freezer is not on as we have had trouble with that in the past.

You might also check your homeowners insurance, I know some people whos freezer contents were covered.

When out of power for 11 days following hurricane Hugo we lost everything; homeowner's covered it minus deductible. I took photos and pretty much itemized everything and no problems.

FYI don't plug it into a GFI outlet either. Don't ask how I know this.

I feel your pain, a few months ago I lost about a hundred pounds of meat. I was just sick about it. There is an alarm that you can hook up the freezer that will go off if the temp gets too warm. Would have saved all that meat had I had one.
