Rear bag for shooting rifles

One of the most simple and cheapest bags that I have used is to take an old sock and use old tumbling media. You can change the shape of it as you need depending on the situation and is relatively cheap.

I have the Armageddon shmedium as well. I also have a dual clip carabiner to easily clip on and off my backpack etc.

I usually have a sea to summit dry bag with extra layers/rain gear/gaiters/spare clothes that we use often as well. Works about as good as anything else and doubles as long as you don’t end up needing what’s inside.

L8ke said above Armageddon shmedium light fill is great and weighs nothing. Argali game bag kit works well add no extra weight or space to your pack.

In a pinch a bino harness and a couple of choppers work.

Like others, I use my kill kit, which works great as it is pretty dense, I can orient it vertically or horizontally, and wedge the stock in nicely.
On the other hand, a buddy of mine gave me one of these, and it is pretty slick. I like the fact that it is so light and flat when not in use I just put it in a thigh pocket which makes it easy to access.

I store my Spartan bipod in a bear spray holster on my bino harness, which allows it to sit flush and is also really easy to access along with the shooting rest, so if things are happening fast, I can get both out and be ready. Like so many things today, we have more options than we know what to do with.

Back in the day I carried old socks or small stuff sacks filled with dry beans for a rear rest. Easy to manipulate to quickly gain or loose elevation at the muzzle. For a front rest I liked rice as a filler as it was denser but still allowed the forearm to settle in. Of course this goes back to Harris bi pods attached to front sling stud was state of the art and laser range finders had not been invented.
