Calling predators has always been one of my favorite hunts. Specifically grey fox! Any other grey fox hunters?

Used to love fox hunting when I was younger. My brother and I used to have a blast running around the valley; most farmers and landowners were more than willing to let us hunt their property. Back then (late 90s, early 2000s), we could get about $20+ each from a fur buyer up the road. Still have my FoxPro, but haven’t put it to use in many years.

No gray fox up here but seeing them on tv I always thought they were cool critters

I have a 6.5 creedmoor and want to use it for coyote hunting, any suggestions on bullets? I currently use 143g ELDX for deer and elk, would this obliterate a coyote?

Id try the eld vt or v maxes and hope they dont exit, but they might.

You’d be fine with the 143 eldx. Going with the vt or vmax with that heavy of bullet still is going to make a BIG hole coming out. Just depends on what your plan with the coyote is The 143 eldx still might make a big hole if you hit bone.

Too bad the fur is worthless anymore. I do keep the heads and boil them up. We can't sell the heads here, so I "traded" them to friends.

I’ve shot a pile with my creed. It doesn’t save pelts. It kills them dead, that’s for sure. Go full metal jacket and go for a clean pass through? Coyotes a small.

That yote I shot above was with my creed. It was under 25 yards on the run at the call center chest. It nearly split him in half. Leo was stupefied. I tried to stop him.

In your opinion, is 'obliterate' a positive or negative outcome?
Ideally i'd like to keep the skull and pelt if i could sew it, but i assume when people are saying it makes it a mess the last thing you want to do it try and skin it. Other options i have is a .22 and AR15 both w/ iron sights.... I've called in one coyote but he did come much closer than 200yrds.

Id say probably the quickest and most cost effective way to keep from from turning coyotes into portable hamburger might just be to use a copper projectile in Your 6.5 or maybe even an FMJ depending on local regs.

So you’re saying I have a chance with keeping some pelt going that route? It’s CO and open season year round with no caliber restrictions
