Wanting to take my son with my for some bonding time and to hunt hogs for the first time. I'd like to fly into Austin (stay with some family there) and just do a day hunt or two.

Is the area surrounding Austin okay for hogs or should I avoid it? I see outfitters advertised there but you never know... Is February/March okay for a time of year or should I wait for a different time?

If I do hunt near Austin - where are some good bbq places to eat?

TIA

There are plenty of hogs in the hill country surrounding Austin. Feb and March are very good times as well. Comfortable temps and the hogs are running out of groceries. That means they will come to bait.
If your outfitter allows it, do some spot and stalk. That area is good for that kind of hunting and it's a hoot!

As far as BBQ, Salt Lick is very good but my favorite is Micklethwait. Franklin's is the most famous but it's always too dang crowded with a long line that runs outside and down the road.

NightHogs in Seguin does a great job of getting you on hogs at night with excellent equipment. It’s fun to walk up on unsuspecting pigs with night vision, and these guys have the system down.

Seguin is south of Austin, and you can hit Blacks in Lockhart for some great BBQ.
