Had a couple days in the 40’s so I got the boat out and found some big Crappie on 2 SW Idaho reservoirs.

Very nice. One of my favorite fish to eat. Unfortunately, I haven't fished for them since high school.

Man that’s awesome! I’ve caught some big ones here lately but only 2 or 3 a trip. I’d love to get in them like that. Congrats

I should have a freezer full by now but at 75 I've gone back into the work force three days per week and we've had so much rain in the last three months the water is extremely muddy and since I live near the inlets of the lake all those freshets keep the water temp going up and down Maybe it will settle out before the spawn.

Nice catch by the way!

In the spring is your best chance as the water warms till they spawn. South facing bays, where creeks flow in warmer water, we caught most in about 5-12ft of water, water temp 41 when we started, 45 when the sun went down.

Nice work! We are going to give it a go this weekend, what did you catch them on?

Boat ?!?!? Open water ?!?! We're still driving trucks out on 3' of ice !! Congrats - nice catch of fish !!

Nice. We still have 17" of ice. Unfortunately, this year absolutely nothing is biting. Very depressing. Just go out and sit there for 2 hours and go home empty handed.

As the water warms the Crappie fishing is picking up here...AZGF had a bunch of volunteers build PVC habitats last
summer and submerge them in local lakes, that has improved fishing greatly.

Most fish in the winter only feed 10-20% of the day, we fished around this spot all day and maybe caught 5. But I have been there before and knew they did not feed until 3 o’clock till it got dark-ish, so we stuck it out and they started biting and we ended up with 33. Threw back at least 20 that We’re not quite big enough.

Like what you did there. Very nice catch! I'm still looking at 3 feet of snow across the level today out my window. Probably be another month to month-and-a-half before we can even think about getting on any water - other than fly fishing.
