Otc Sheep

Is that really out of line?
Also you can still select to opt out of using your bonus points and draw the tag a keep your current points. So essentially could still continue to hunt the unlimiteds and build points now you just have to stagger it every other year. If you have a hunting partner the smart money would stagger who packs the tag each year while continuing to build points. Doesn’t really seems like it did anything to relieve pressure on the unlimited units to me

Getting to hunt sheep every year is a huge privilege. I don't see anything wrong with making people choose between hunting unlimited sheep or applying for LE sheep.
The reality of it is that this year more than likely 10 rams will be taken in those units. The state will issue about 60 LE tag for rams. That’s a special deal and I’m all for anything that keeps it going for longer it’s a huge opportunity for us to have a chance at a sheep hunt

I don’t think anyone thinks you’re wrong but think about this.

This year I hike into my favorite unlimited unit and shoot that 40” 180 ram. And eight years from now I have 7 points accrued and can start applying limited entry sheep again. That’s horsechit

I just think the change which as far as I can tell was just slipped in by the dept🤷‍♂️ is probably less of a big deal than maybe other things. Kind of funny things that get addressed while other major issues just don’t get touched.

Letting people accrue bonus points during their waiting period is a joke. I recently got an email from FWP saying that my 7 year wait for applying for moose is over. I'm back in the draw with 7 points this year. It feels a bit dirty to me.

Also considering most people that purchased the tag never steeped foot into the mountains it seems like the real looser on the entire thing was funding at Fwp.

Although I can't find the bill now, I'm almost certain that the legislature passed a bill saying you can only buy points if eligible to apply for that species in the drawing. Goal being that kids under 12 and people on the 7 year wait couldn't build points.

It just seems that nobody bothered telling the IT guy in Helena.

Maybe it was a recent change? I bought a moose point last year while in the penalty box.

Don't hate the player hate the game. I am right there with you. Tbh I wish I would have never drawn the damn moose tag and be sitting on 18 points. (Before anybody gets upset this is a joke....mostly)

It should be if you harvest a sheep (Unlimited or otherwise) you don't get to apply again. I think it makes sense for Moose/Goat/Sheep to be "once in a lifetime".

I also think it's reasonable to have waiting periods if you draw certain special draw elk tags. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that.

How many le permits have you drawn?

I disagree completely. Every year things are so different from one another. Your hunt could absolutely suck one year and be great the next. I drew a moose tag in 2020. Of course the year I get my first tag the world goes crazy. There were so many people in the woods that moose were nonexistent. 7 bulls had been killed by vehicles in my unit that year. I spent 28 days looking for a bull.

I don't think that you should loose your chance to apply for a limited entry tag just because you have drawn one in the past.

We can agree to disagree
