Has anybody hunted this unit? Wife wants me to hunt something close to her mom's house so she can hang out with her while I'm up in the mountains.

Thank you.

WTH is unit 62?
We use unit names like utah.

Oregon has numbers and names for each unit staring with 10 and going thru 77, they dont have a unit 13 ! ha ha ha bad number , i guess. unit 62 is also called the PINE CREEK unit . its in eastern Oregon on the Idaho border, never hunted it

Pine Creek is a good Oregon unit. Some beautiful country and elk habitat. I've cut fire wood there during elk season and about half the camps had meat hanging. Elk use the whole unit from the Snake River breaks and on up to Cornucopia. Quite a few bears also.

Mom lives in Halfway. I always see them, or hear them at night when I sit on the back porch of her 80. I know Enterprise and Joseph have good elk there. Just looking at a possible option. I asked my brother in law if the unit was OTC or a draw unit but he was no help. Wife will have 3 months off from work starting August through October. Her words were, "you have a once in a lifetime chance to hunt all you want." So I'm trying to line things out in prep for it. She's gonna get me a rifle so I'm excited about that. Just have to wait till we pay for this quarter of a cow, and half a cow in May.

I would stay home and hunt close to Mtn home if it were me. Should do really well with that much time off. I would archery hunt pine creek for elk and deer if I had the whole month off. There are plenty of elk all over that unit and some dandy bucks.

It's a lot more fun in late September for the last couple weeks of bow season. Lots of elk, deer and wolves. Grouse season is on at the same time. If you can take off October you'll have chukar, duck, pheasant and steelhead fairly close. Best time of the year.
