I just ordered a 44 mag with a 8.3. I am thinking of putting a scope on it. It will be for hunting so I don't know what scope. Any recommendations

Leupold is the only way to go in my opinion for a handgun scope.
For a red dot...tube style would be ultra dot. Mini red dot I’d go trijicon or leupold.

Red Dot.

Actually, just replace the rear sight with a dot like a JP Industries dot and mount. https://www.jprifles.com/1.6.1.php

That’s what I did on my S&W PC Light Hunter .44 mag. I can hold a 4” group at 100 yards.

I just don’t see any need for anything more.

I've also had really good luck/experience with the Vortex Venom 3MOA reflex red dot sight. My favorite is the Trijicon RMR 1MOA, but it's also a bit more expensive. Plus the one downside to the Trijicon is that you have to completely remove it from the gun in order to change the battery. Battery life is good and lasts a long time, but I typically change all mine out once a year regardless. I'd hate to be 10 miles deep trying to find an Elk and see that my battery had died. The Vortex can be changed without removing it.
