Opinions please!!!

The biggest issue that I have with Vortex is that they tend to flare out easily.
Never had to send one in for warranty work. Been using a couple for 10+ years.

I whole heartedly agree with @mtmuley on the Sightron scopes!
I have (3).
An SII 4-12X40 AO with MOA reticle.
A STAC 4-20X56 MOA2.
And a SIII 10-50X60 LRTD (long range target dot) with 1/8 MOA adjustments.
All good scopes!
All well under $1,000.

The scopes that I have been buying for the past few years though is Crimson Trace.
I'd compare their Hardline series to the Zeiss V4 line.
Yeah, they are that good for almost 1/2 the price of the Zeiss.
 
I have mostly Leupolds, they have decent glass, are fairly durable and they are light weight. Us old fat guys like light weight. I have an older Vari xII 2-7 that has been on so many rifles that I have lost count and it’s never let me down. I have some newer VX3 2.5-8 scopes that have been dependable for me, a couple of older MK 4 models even a couple of VX Freedom models and a single VX5 HD. I like them all, I also have a Sightron and like it a lot, and I’ve owned a couple of Vortex scopes with no issues. I have not owned a Maven or Tract but they are on the radar. The Nightforce scopes are pretty well bulletproof but the glass is not great and they are heavy and expensive. The European scopes have top quality glass as a rule, can be heavy and are generally expensive.

When I buy a new rifle, I usually budget at least as much as I spent on it for the optic. I would recommend staying away from the bottom tier scopes from most companies with a few exceptions. The Zeiss, Nightforce and a couple of others are exceptions. In Vortex I would look at the Viper on the lower end. I would say buy the scopes one or two at a time and go with a little better quality rather than try to get them all at once and compromise the quality.

One final thought, personally, I don’t care much for a 50mm objective on a hunting rifle. I hunt mostly in timber and can see past legal shooting time in most instances.

The vortex diamondback hp for 191 is a great deal. I picked up a couple. Put one on a compact weatherby vanguard 308. Bdc works perfect out to 500. Just hit 3 4 and 500 steel this morning in 3 shots in 10 mph winds.

At Midway USA there are a couole of Vortex scopes pictured below. Also, im contemplating Hawke or ive heard good things about Athlon. Or im thinkin, at least on the main rifle ill be using for hunting (undecided) to buy once....cry once and get the Leupold pictured. Id appreciate input if you have experience with any of these brands especially the specific model.

Did you just run out and buy three rifles last week? I would assume you have had a couple of these for a while and they already have an optic. What do you think of that/those? Have you looked through any of the options you presented? What ranges will yiu be shooting? Are you taking this into the back country on a hunt? Do you want to dial for distance, or holdover with your reticle? Buying a scope that has tge options you need for your use can make a bigger difference in how happy you are with it than the brand. No difference than spending 50k on a truck to do things that a 35k car could do, or 35k on a car when you need the 50k truck.

I had a variety of Vortex but they spent more time at vortex being replaced than on my rifles. I stepped up to Swaro Z3 but it was a much finer scope than I appreciated or needed. I picked up my first Leupold used and found a perfect match for my type hunting. I settled on Leupold exclusively. I have VX-II, Freedom and VX III. I see no reason for me to go up down or sideways. My opinion is Leupold all the way.

Buy Chinese scope, get Chinese quality. Vortex are excellent entry level scopes. They work great until they don't. You usually don't find out that something is FUBAR until you miss that shot you have waited a year to take.
 
Didn't just run out and buy a bunch of rifles last week...ive had three of them for awhile and just recently picked up the X bolt. And no I haven't had glass on any of them. I just got to a point physically where im able to hunt again. That's the problem when you assume things. But thanks for the advice.

I've got 3 Vortex, 2 Redfields, 1 Tasco, 3 Sightron, 5 Crimson Trace, and a 1980s Simmons.
Make that 3 Redfields. I forgot the one that came on the German made Weatherby Mark V Deluxe, circa 1970s?



The only scopes I have ever needed to send in for warranty is the Burris Fullfields that I bought 3 of at the same time in sealed boxes. At least one control is almost siezed.
QA issue, not a failure.

Otherwise, I've never had a scope failure.

Thank you!!! I ended up getting 2 of the vortex and picked up a very nice nikon monarch 4-16x42.
 
I have a fixed power 6x Redfield wide screen that I love. It has the cross hairs replaced but wasn't sealed very well and is full of micro dust. I wish I could find someone to clean and reseal it.
