Was at my moms place this weekend and asked to borrow my dads old down sleeping bag for elk season (she keeps it in her car in the winter). She agreed and told me to go look in the basement as she thought there was another bag down there. She was correct, she had my grandfather’s old down sleeping bag as well. From the Alaskan Sleeping Bag company in Portland, Oregon. A little research says they were in business from the 1930s-1970s. I’m guessing he bought it in the late 1940s or early 1950s when he lived around Helena. Can’t wait to put it to use this fall!IMG_2984.jpegIMG_2985.jpegIMG_2986.jpeg

It's really interesting finding old gear like that. When we were going through my father-in-law's stuff after he passed away, we found a lot of hunting clothing and gear from the 60s-80s. Virtually everything was heavy and not very waterproof, but there was absolutely no denying the quality of construction.

It is always so cool to find a little bit of history when you go home.
