Oil pressure gauge?

I have a 2005 Silverado. I changed the oil a few days ago and the pressure gauge read fine for 2-3 days after the oil change. Today it has been pinned at 80psi. It pins at 80 psi even when you just turn over the key without starting it as well and stays at 80 psi when running. Has the gauge just gone bad? The truck runs fine.

The gauge/sensor works off resistance. Sensor is probably bad, but you can test it to see if there is a grounding issue. Unplug the connector to the oil pressure sensor with key on engine off when the gauge was at 80 psi, if the gauge goes to zero then it's the sensor. Not a GM guy but I think it's a pretty common, have seen it on diesel sites.

The fact that it pegs with just the key on sounds like a bad sensor. Could even be the electrical connection at the sensor.

Bad sending unit (sensor) or bad stepper motor behind the dashboard. Steppers are very, very common failures in GM trucks. I replaced all of them on my '03 Silverado due to erratic gauge readings.

Not the stepper. Should be the "sending unit" , or sensor as they are called now. Jezz "pegged" it. Happened to me. mtmuley

Pretty sure it's the oil pressure sending unit. I'll change it and hope it fixes it. Thanks everyone.

id say its oil pressure senser or poor connection at sending unit,{pretty common}check your connections or see if you bumped any wires when you did your oil change.

Got it fixed, as usual it was in one of the hardest to get to spots they could possibly put it.

Is there anything that isn't nowadays? I recently replaced a 3" section of rubber hose and had to alternate between crawling under and working from above.

I believe all new vehicles are designed to make them as hard as possible for us DIY people to work on them.
